Monrovia - The Acting Chairman of the National Elections Commission, Cllr. Elizabeth J. Nelson says there is a remarkable improvement in the relationship between registered political parties in the country and the Commission. Cllr. Nelson attributed this improvement in relationship to continuous knowledge sharing and capacity building forums organized for political parties by the NEC and other partners. She intimated that these interactions usually take place in Inter-Party Consultative Committee (IPCC) meetings which are platforms for frank interactions and discussions of issues related to the electoral process in Liberia. She said the NEC will continuously remain engaged with political parties on all activities related to the electoral process as a basis to furtherboostsuchsymbiotic relationship which is based on mutualism. Cllr. Nelson has meanwhile commended Political Parties for their participation in the Electoral Law Reform Consultations and challenged them to come up with a Joint Proposal that would inform the drafting of the Legislation. The Acting Chairman of the NEC made the statement Wednesday at the start of a two-day workshop on capacity building for political parties being at the headquarters of the National Elections Commission under the Theme: “Financial Sustainability in Political Parties.” Topics being discussed at the workshop include the role of political parties in the constitutional review process; proposed capacity building project with political parties and the international focus of the IPCC Framework, among others. The Two-Day Inter-Party Consultative Committee (IPCC) Financial Management Training Workshop for political parties is organized by the National Elections Commission in collaboration with the International Foundation for Electoral System (IFES) with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
